Murray Looking Forward To Royal Meeting
Tennis star Andy Murray has admitted that he is looking forward to his scheduled meeting with the Queen after his next Wimbledon match.
“I hope it doesn’t affect me in the match,” said Murray. “I think it’s one of those things that when you get out there you’re aware of it, but then it is our job to be able to concentrate and to focus, not let things that are going on off the court distract you.
“I’ve been doing it for the last five, six years, getting used to playing in big stadiums with people watching and various distractions. You just need to stay focused.”
Murray named David Beckham as the most famous person he has met in his life so far, but that is set to change on Thursday with the Scot expected to have the opportunity to meet the Queen after he plays.
“I don’t know what I’ll say exactly,” he said. “I’ll probably be a little bit nervous, understandably. I guess I don’t want to mess up at all.”
Murray is the only Brit left in the draws now after all seven other home players were knocked out and the World number four admitted to be disappointed with the way this had worked out.
It’s not great, is it?” Murray said. “A few of the girls had a chance to win and didn’t quite take them. It’s something that I’ve always enjoyed – playing in the big tournaments – because that was why I always played tennis.
“Obviously you want to enjoy it, but surely when you start playing a sport, you want to compete in the biggest events against the best players?
The furthest Murray has gotin Britain’s flagship Tennis tournament is the semi finals last year when he was knocked out by the big serving American Andy Roddick, who himself went on to be outclassed by Roger Federer in the final, and the British number one is hoping to go at least one round further this year and reach the final.
Murray is 8/1 with Paddy Power to win Wimbledon this year, with Coral and William Hill offering odds of 15/2 and 6/1 respectively.
